The African Spurred Tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata) is a large African reptile. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.

Description[]

The African spurred tortoise, also known as the Sulcata tortoise, is the largest species of mainland tortoise and the third-largest overall, with only the island-dwelling Galapagos Giant Tortoise and Aldabra Giant Tortoise being larger. When fully grown, it can reach a length of 83cm and weigh up to 98kg, although heavier individuals have been recorded. Its latin and alternative name refer to the furrows (sulcus) on its scales.

The African spurred tortoise is native to the southern regions of the Sahara desert and typically lives in arid regions. It feeds on a large variety of plants and grasses, as well as flowers and cactus buds, and will often spend the warmest parts of the day in a burrow that the tortoise will dig itself. Females will lay up to 30 eggs in a clutch - hatchlings are only a few inches long, but grow quickly. A healthy African spurred tortoise may live for up to 70 years.

zootycoon.com Description
The African spurred tortoise is the largest land tortoise on the African continent. It eats a high-fiber diet of grasses and depends on succulent plants for its water supply. Because the African spurred tortoise grows so large, it also needs foods that are high in calcium. The African spurred tortoise is very strong and aggressive, with males often attempting to flip each other over. When it’s hot, the African spurred tortoise burrows in mud to avoid dehydration, and after a cold night it sometimes basks in the morning sunshine to warm up.
