The Arctic Wolf (Canis lupus arctos) is a large canid native to Arctic Canada. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon DS.
Description[]
The Arctic wolf, also known as the White Wolf or Polar Wolf, is a subspecies of the Gray Wolf, which is the largest member of the canid family. Arctic wolves are highly social, living in packs that, on average, have about 4–7 members in it, lead by a mated pair and the rest of the pack consisting of their offspring.
Arctic wolves are typically smaller than more southern wolf subspecies and can be identified by its white coloration and more narrow skull. Like all wolves, they are carnivorous and primarily prey on Musk Ox and Arctic Hares, though they will also eat lemmings, caribou, Arctic foxes, birds and bugs. The Arctic wolf is currently listed as data deficient, though their numbers have been known to decline when their preferred prey also declines.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The Arctic Wolf is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is not adoptable until September 1. It is a required animal to adopt in the Holiday Tree Farm scenario.
The Arctic wolf is a tundra animal, requiring a lot of snow as well as gray stone in its habitat. It also requires several Snowy Rocks and Formations to meet its habitat suitability and likes the Snowy Rock Cave as a shelter. Like the gray wolf, it prefers to have at least four individuals in its exhibit, and as such requires a large exhibit.

- Arctic wolves were originally planned to swim, even having an unused animation, but cannot swim in the final release.
- The Snowy Rock Formation requirement can be substituted by three Snowy Rock Caves.
