Azara's agouti is a South American agouti species from the family Dasyproctidae. Found in Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina, it is named after Spanish naturalist Félix de Azara. The population is unknown and may have gone locally extinct in some areas due to hunting; it is listed as vulnerable in Argentina.

This large and long-legged rodent prancing around in the forests of the Cerrador region in eastern Bolivia and the southernmost part of Brazil. The Azara's Agouti is diurnal: active daytime. It mainly eats nuts, fruits and seeds and mates all year round, weather permitting. It is about 50 cm and 3 kg in fully grown condition.
No exact number has been established, but the population is estimated to be reduced.
