The Binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as the bearcat, is a viverrid native to South and Southeast Asia. It is uncommon in much of its range, and listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN because of a declining population trend that is estimated at more than 30% over the last three decades. Thomas Stamford Raffles first described a specimen from Malacca, where it is called binturung. In standard Malay, it is known as benturung, and in Riau, Indonesia, as tenturun.
The Binturong has a very wide range throughout South East Asia. Habitat destruction and hunting have been affecting populations in many countries. The Binturongs solitary nature and time spent in trees has meant that it is rarely seen by humans.
In Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The binturong is available in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox) for the Tropical Pool mini-exhibit. It is unlocked at a Fame level of 17, and only two binturongs can be placed in one mini-exhibit. They share the same animations as the Red Panda. Binturong are not able to be mixed with any other species that use the Tropical Pool mini-exhibit.

- In game, male and female Binturongs are the same size. However, in real life, female Binturong are about 20% larger than males. This is even mentioned on the Binturong's Zoopedia.
- The Binturong's lower jaw clips into its upper palate, this is likely a result of the animal reusing the Red Panda animations and not adjusting the jaw bone accordingly.
- The binturong was part of the main vote for Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game - Additional Animal Pack and had a total of 76 votes out of 717 votes, which is 10.6% of the votes cast.
