The Black Caiman (Melanosuchus niger) is a large South American reptile. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The black caiman is the largest of six species of caiman and one of the largest New-World crocodilians. Adults have been known to grow up to 5m (16ft) in length, comparable in size to the closely-related American Alligator. The black caiman gets its name due to the dark coloration of the adults, oftentimes appearing almost black. Juveniles are lighter in color with distinctive yellow bands that are often retained into adulthood. Compared with other caiman species, the black caiman has a larger, heavier head.
The black caiman is native to the Amazon basin and other South American freshwater habitats, where it is often the largest predator in its region. Like most other crocodilians, it hunts a variety of prey including fish, birds, mammals and other reptiles, which it will typically ambush. Little is known about the behaviour of wild black caiman, as few studies have been done on them, but it is believed to have no natural enemies and even jaguars will avoid attacking fully grown adults. Attacks on humans have also been documented in the past.

The black caiman is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection, the updated version of Zoo Tycoon (Xbox). It is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame level of 24.
The black caiman is a Mini-Exhibit animal. It lives in the Tropical Pool mini-exhibit and is compatible with other caiman species.
