The black capuchin is one of seven species of capuchin monkey in the genus Sapajus, or "robust capuchins". It is closely related to the Tufted Capuchin and was initially considered a subspecies. It can be distinguished from its darker coloration and prominent horn-like tufts on its head, giving it the alternate name Black-Horned Capuchin.
Native to the Atlantic forests of Brazil and Argentina, the black capuchin is a social animal, living in groups of up to twenty individuals, led by an alpha male. They are omnivorous, eating a wide variety of fruit, leaves, insects and small vertebrates. During times of scarce food, groups may split up and travel large distances to find enough to eat. Although the exact population is unknown, the black capuchin is believed to be declining in the wild.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The black capuchin is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. It is unlocked for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame level of 11.
The black capuchin is a Mini-Exhibit animal and lives in the Tropical Tree mini-exhibit. It is compatible with other capuchins.
