The Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus) is a large African ungulate. It is adoptable in Zoo Tycoon, Zoo tycoon 2, and Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Bongo is a large antelope native to Africa. Although males and females are similar in size, males are heavier, weighing in at up to 405kg (893lbs), making the species the third-largest antelope in the world. Bongos have a chestnut coat with white stripes which serves as camouflage and heavy spiral horns which are used for fighting and clearing their way through trees. Males have a darker coat and slightly larger, thicker horns than females.
The bongo lives in the dense tropical rainforests in West and Central Africa. It is largely a nocturnal species and browses on a variety of leaves, bushes and vines - bongos have also been observed eating burnt wood and charcoal as a means of obtaining salt and minerals. Males are typically solitary, whilst females will live in small groups. Bongos are naturally timid animals and will flee at speed through dense undergrowth if they feel threatened. There are two subspecies of Bongo, the Lowland Bongo and the Mountain Bongo. Both of which are facing a wild population decline due to hunting and habitat destruction.
Zoo Tycoon[]

The bongo is a Tropical Rainforest animal. It shares similar exhibit requirements to the Okapi and the two can be exhibited together in a highly suitable enclosure. The bongo on its own though requires the Jungle Rock Formation in order to get a habitat suitability of 100%.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The bongo is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the African Adventure expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available at the start, with a rating of half a star.

The bongo is a chestnut-colored antelope that lives in the forests of central and western Africa. Like other antelope, the bongo has distinctive white vertical stripes down its shoulders, like dripped pastry icing. Both males and females have spiraling horns. The bongo lives on a diet of roots, sweet potatoes, branch tips, and shoots. Its tongue can wrap around food so it can easily feed from tall plants. The bongo is a private, shy animal that runs if it is the least bit frightened. |

Trivia[]
- The bongo is the only animal to display sexual dimorphism in its Zoo Tycoon icons, but not in its Zoo Tycoon 2 icons. This is because male and female bongos in Zoo Tycoon 2 share the same model and textures, with males being coded to be slightly larger than females.
- In Zoo Tycoon (Xbox), both bongo subspecies have sexual dimorphism in that females accurately have slightly smaller horns than males.
