The Borneo elephant (Elephas maximus borneensis) is a large Asian mammal. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Borneo elephant, also called the Borneo pygmy elephant, is a possible subspecies of the Asian Elephant. Its origin remains the subject of debate, with various proposals suggesting it is indigenous or is simply descended from captive elephants originally presented to the Sultan of Sulu.
Despite its alternate name, the Borneo elephant is not much smaller than other Asian elephant subspecies. There are several differences between the Asian elephant and the African elephants. As well as being smaller, Asian individuals are stockier, and have smaller ears. They only have one finger-like extension at the end of their trunks while African individuals have two. Unlike the African elephant, generally only the male Asian elephant has tusks; females may possess small "tushes" that do not protrude through the skin.
Borneo elephants are confined to the Northern regions of Borneo. They live in a variety of habitats, from dry grasslands to tropical forests, but are always found in close proximity of water. They will graze and browse various types of vegetation, using their dexterous trunk to reach food, as well as smell and communicate with other elephants. Females form small groups along with their calves, whilst bulls are typically more solitary. Like all elephants, the Asian elephant is hunted for its ivory tusks.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The Bornean elephant is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox) and is available in the base game. It is unlocked at a Zoo Fame level of 20.
Like all Asian elephants, the Borneo elephant is a Tropical Rainforest animal. They eat vegetables, grass, and fruit. Bornean elephants play with Activity centers, rope toys and wading pools (as do all elephants). Bornean elephants can share an exhibit with any elephant, rhino, giraffe, or antelope.
