The Brazilian Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) is a mid-sized South American ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Brazilian tapir, also known as the South American Tapir or Lowland Tapir, is the third-largest species of tapir and the largest living land mammal native to the Amazon. Adults can typically weigh up to 225kg (496lbs) and reaches a length of 2.5m (8.2ft). Like all tapirs, it possesses a flexible proboscis, which it will use to reach food. The Brazilian tapir can be identified by its dark brown coloration and low crest running down the back of its neck. A smaller tapir, known as the Kabomani Tapir and reaching a weight of 110kg (240lbs), is believed to be a variety of Brazilian tapir, although some have considered it its own species.
The Brazilian tapir is found across northern-South America in the Amazon Rainforest and River Basin. It is always found near water and is a capable swimmer and diver. It is a herbivore, feeding on a variety of land and water plants, as well as fruits. Female tapirs give birth to a single calf, which has a distinctive white spotted pattern on its brown body. Due to their large size, tapirs have few natural enemies, with the Black Caiman, Cougar and Jaguar being among the few predators large enough to attack an adult.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The Brazilian tapir is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection, the updated version of Zoo Tycoon (Xbox). It is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame level of 7.
Despite its large size, the Brazilian tapir is a Mini-Exhibit animal that lives in the Tropical Lawn mini-exhibit. It is compatible with other species of tapir.
