Carnotaurus (Meat Bull, often translated as, "Meat-Eating Bull") is a large South American carnivorous dinosaur. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.

Description[]

Carnotaurus was an abelisaurid, a group of theropods that lived during the Late Cretaceous and were extremely common in the Southern Hemisphere. Abelisaurids were characterized by their stocky hind limbs, tiny forelimbs and comparatively short, deep skulls which often featured distinctive ornamentation. Carnotaurus possessed two thick horns atop its head, which may have been used to fight rivals or attract mates. It reached lengths of up to 9m (29.5ft), but was lightly built for its size. Skin impressions have shown it was covered in small scales that did not overlap.

Carnotaurus lived in what is now Argentina during the late Cretaceous period, which at the time was likely a coastal plain. Like most other theropods, it was carnivorous, although it is unclear what it would have preyed upon. Studies have suggested that Carnotaurus had a highly developed sense of smell and was a fast runner, possibly faster than any other large theropod.

Zoo Tycoon 2[]

Carnotaurus is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Dino Danger pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 3 stars.

Carnotaurus is a Boreal Forest animal. Like all dinosaurs in the pack, it will use the Dinosaur Prey Dummy for enrichment and will build nests to lay their eggs.

Carnotaurus is also available in the Extinct Animals expansion pack and, if the Dino Danger pack has already been installed, it is modified to match the other dinosaurs. In comparison to the Dino Danger model, which featured an orange bulldog-like face and red markings on its feet, the updated Carnotaurus has a thinner and boxier skull somewhat truer to the real animal and its coloration is a muted gray with reddish stripes. If stressed, it will rampage. Like the Tyrannosaurus rex, it can eat adult male guests if it escapes.

Dino Danger Pack

Carnotaurus was an unusual meat-eating dinosaur that lived during the mid-Cretaceous period, 113 to 91 million years ago. It had knobby horns over its eyebrows, which were used for head butting and mating rituals, and four-fingered “hands” with a backward-pointing spike. While most dinosaur fossils have been found in North America, Carnotaurus was discovered in Argentina, South America and quite recently (1984) by José F. Bonaparte. He found only a single fossil, but it was so well preserved that rough bumps were visible on its skin.

Extinct Animals

The Carnotaurus lived during the Cretaceous Period, more than 91 million years ago. While most dinosaur fossils have been found in North America, fossils of the Carnotaurus were discovered in Argentina, South America. It had knobby horns over its eyebrows, which it used for head butting and during mating rituals. The Carnotaurus may have had a thing for bling: It wore a backward-pointing spike on the back of each of its four-fingered “hands” like modern-day jewelry.

Zoopedia Zoopedia Description
The Carnotaurus was an unusual dinosaur. Its name means "flesh (eating) bull" and derives from the short horns above its eyes. While most dinosaur fossils have been discovered in North America, the remains of the Carnotaurus have been found in South America. Incidentally, it was only discovered relatively recently: in 1984 in Argentina, by José F. Bonaparte, who found only a single fossil. But it was so well preserved that rough bumps were visible on its skin.

Carnotaurus lived about 113 to 91 million years ago during the middle Cretaceous period. It reached a length of 7.5 m and a weight of around 1 t. He wore two small horns over his eyes. Its small arms were even shorter than the T. rex's, ending in four-fingered "hands" tipped with a backward-pointing claw. Although the Carnotaurus walked on its hind legs like most carnivores, it is not related to well-known carnivores like the Giganotosaurus, Allosaurus, and T. rex. It belongs to a genus of southern hemisphere carnivores called abelisaurs.
