The Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large African felid. It is an adoptable animal in all games except Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Cheetah is the world's fastest land animal, reaching top speeds of 65-75mph (104.6-120.7km/h) in short bursts. The cheetah's body is adapted for speed, being lightly built, adults weighing on average 32-56kg (75-125lbs), and has long thin legs and a flexible spine, which can give it an 8m stride when running. Other adaptations include a long tail which helps the cheetah turn when running, claws that are unable to be fully retracted which increase grip, wide nostrils and large lungs that enable air to flow easily, and black tear-like markings under its eyes that may help reduce the glare from the sun.
The cheetah lives in the open plains in Africa and uses its speed to hunt small, nimble prey such as antelope and hares. Females typically live alone, although males, usually brothers from the same litter, will often stay and hunt together in small groups called Coalitions. Although successful hunters, the cheetah's light build means it is easily chased away from prey by other carnivores such as lions and hyenas. Originally found across Africa and into Asia, cheetah numbers have declined dramatically, with the only cheetahs outside Africa found in a small region of central Iran.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The Cheetah is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is not adoptable until September 1.
The cheetah is a Savannah animal and only requires a small amount of dirt as additional terrain. It requires a large exhibit if there are more than two cheetahs in an enclosure. Its favorite foliage is the Thorn Bush and it can achieve a habitat suitability of 100% using Thorn Bushes, Medium Savannah Rocks and a single shelter, its favourite shelter being the Rock Cave.
True to real life, cheetahs will hunt antelope such as the Thomson's Gazelle or Blackbuck if the animals are placed in the same enclosure as each other. The cheetah will also hunt Olive Baboons, Plains Zebras, Wildebeest, Giraffes, Sable Antelopes, Greater Flamingos, Ostriches, African Warthogs and Red Kangaroos. African Elephants will kill cheetahs if placed in the same enclosure.
Curiously, if any African predator, which include the African Lion, Leopard, African Wild Dog and Hyena are placed in the same enclosure as the cheetah, the animals will ignore each other.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The cheetah is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and is available in the base game. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is adoptable when a zoo reaches a fame of 2 and a half stars.
The cheetah is a Savannah animal, but will also tolerate temperate forest, boreal forest, desert, scrub, tropical rainforest and grassland biomes to a lesser extent. Cheetahs like to run and have a high space requirement, so a large enclosure of at least 116 tiles for a pair is necessary. The cheetah is a carnivore and eats meat and fish, as well as all types of live prey enrichment, including the Koi fish.
The cheetah, like all cats is a highly entertaining animal, able to use a variety of enrichment items including various balls, the Scratching Post, squeaky toys, Stuffed Prey Dummy, Cat Climber, bone and care tire, just to name a few. Cheetahs can also use a variety of shelters, including the Rock Cave, Concrete and Wooden Shelters, Kopje, Raised Sleeping Platform, and the Shade Structure.
Cheetahs are solitary animals, and males will fight and kill unrelated males if they are placed in the same enclosure. Females will leave each other alone. Prior to the instalment of African Adventure, the cheetah would chase after prey with the standard speed that other animals use, after the expansion pack is installed, cheetahs will chase after animals at a faster speed, which also uses a unique running animation. Cheetahs will give birth to 2–3 cubs at a time, and mother cheetahs will teach their cubs how to hunt if live food or a prey animal is placed in their exhibit.

King Cheetahs[]
The King Cheetah is a variant skin for the cheetah, a feature introduced in the Endangered Species expansion pack. Two different king cheetah variant skins exist, one with back stripes and small spots, and one with larger, messy spots. The king cheetah variants have the lowest chance of occurring when an animal is placed of any variant in the game, having a chance of only 2% (1% each) to occur. Like all animal variants, king cheetahs will not give birth to king cheetah cubs, although there are king cheetah skins for cubs in the files. This is because the coding that spawns cubs when a female gives birth does not support the spawning of variants.

Zoo Tycoon 2: Mobile[]
The Cheetah is an adoptable animal in the Java version of Zoo Tycoon 2: Mobile. It is the fifth animal the player can unlock in the versions that have it.
The Cheetah is a Savannah biome animal that likes some dirt in its exhibit, along with the Thorn Bush and Small Rocks to decorate. It does not like any water or other terrain types in its exhibit.

- In Zoo Tycoon, the cheetah makes unidentified big cat sounds, which are used for other cat species in the game, instead of actual cheetah vocalizations.
