The Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), also sometimes called the Common Chimpanzee, or just Chimp, is a medium-sized African ape. It is an adoptable animal in all Zoo Tycoon games.
Description[]
The chimpanzee is a great ape and as such, it is one of the closest living relatives to humans. They are stocky primates, with coarse black hair covering their bodies. As with all apes except for humans, their arms are longer than their legs, and they are adapted for life in the trees as well as on the ground, typically walking on their knuckles. Chimpanzees live in a variety of habitats, although they usually reside in rainforests. They are omnivorous and will eat a wide variety of food, from leaves and bark to insects and smaller primates, but their main diet consists of fruits.
Chimpanzees are highly social animals, living in large groups, typically lead by a dominant male. They will often groom each other to reinforce social bonds and communicate with each other using a wide variety of facial expressions and vocalizations. Chimpanzees are also known to be highly intelligent and have been shown creating and using tools, such as sticks to fish for termites and stones to crack open nuts.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The chimpanzee is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is one of eight animals of the base game that is initially available without research or waiting.
The chimpanzee is a rainforest animal, although it also requires some grass and a little bit of elevation in its habitat. It is one of only a few animals in the game to have its own enrichment, in the form of two sizes of chimpanzee bars. They will also swing in Orchid Trees if these are included in their enclosure. Chimpanzees have the ability to climb over certain enclosure fences.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The Chimpanzee is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and is once again available in the base game. It requires 3 and a half stars to be unlocked and is a tropical rainforest animal. They are able to climb certain fences, such as the chain link fence, to escape.
Chimpanzees will eat a wide variety of food, including bananas and branches, and these can be provided to them in a variety of ways, including bowls, logs and termite mounds. They are able to utilize a large number of enrichment items and will build themselves a nest to sleep in if they are provided with the right items.

Zoo Tycoon 2: Mobile[]
The Chimpanzee is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2: Mobile. It is found in all known versions of the game and is either the second or third animal to be unlocked depending on the version of the game.
The Chimpanzee favours the Tropical Rainforest biome with a bit of grass and dirt in its exhibit and the Orchid tree and Stone Ruin as decoration. It does not like any water or any other plant or rock types in its exhibit.
Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game[]
The Chimpanzee is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game. It is a Level 2 Main Species in the rainforest biome. It is in the Primate class, represented by its own meeple.
As a Level 2 animal, the Chimpanzee can only be adopted if no species in a player's zoo has a happiness below light green. It is a highly social animal, requiring at least four animals in order to be exhibited, with a mixture of males and females acceptable. It is not compatible with co-species, nor is it part of any conservation programs.

- When the Bonobo was more commonly known as the Pygmy Chimpanzee, the Chimpanzee was often called the Common Chimpanzee to help distinguish them, however this name has fallen out of favour in the modern day and is rarely used.
