The Crested Gibbon (Nomascus concolor, formerly Hylobates concolor), more accurately the Black Crested Gibbon, is a small ape native to southeast Asia. It is available for adoption in Zoo Tycoon 2.

The Black Crested Gibbon is one of thirteen species of gibbon, a family of small apes adapted to life in the treetops of South-East Asia's tropical rainforests. The Black Crested Gibbon, native to China, Laos and northern Vietnam, can weigh up to 10kg (22lbs) and has a body length of 54cm (21in). Like all gibbons, its long arms - 1.5 times the length of its legs - are used to swing between branches in a process known as "brachiation"; a gibbon can cover 15m (50ft) in a single swing. The species is sexually dimorphic, with males being completely black and females being golden with black patches, most notably on the top of her head.
Black crested gibbons, like most of their kind, live in family groups consisting of a breeding pair and their offspring. Gibbons form long-term pair bonds and both individuals will advertise their territory by singing together. Black Crested Gibbons can eat a variety of food, including leaves, bark, flowers, small mammals, lizards and eggs with a preference for sugar-rich fruits such as figs. It is one of the rarest primates in the world, being critically endangered with only an estimated 2,000 individuals left in the wild.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The Crested Gibbon is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Endangered Species expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 4 stars.
The crested gibbon is a tropical rainforest animals and feeds on branches, bananas, apples and insects. They can use a variety of enrichment items, including balls, rubber toys, the car tire, lookout post and monkey bars, they are also able to eat enrichment apples and figs. There are only three shelters the crested gibbon can use, those being the Shade Structure, Elevated Nest Box and Raised Sleeping Platform. The crested gibbon is a social animal and will call to other gibbons and groom each other. Females will give birth to one baby at a time.

| The crested gibbon is a small anthropoid ape found in the subequatorial forests of India, Indochina, and the Malay Archipelago. It uses its long arms to swing from tree to tree with great agility, using its hands as hooks rather than grasping the limbs. The gibbon is the only anthropoid ape to walk on its hind limbs only, usually raising its arms for balance. Gibbons eat leaves, fruit, flower parts, insects, spiders, birds, and bird eggs. They are usually quiet during the day but commonly howl at sunrise and in late afternoon. Populations of wild gibbons have been severely reduced due to hunting and deforestation. |
