Diprotodon (Two-Protruding Front Teeth) is a large prehistoric Oceanian marsupial. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.
Description[]
Diprotodon, informally known as the Giant Wombat, is a large marsupial that lived in Australia during the Pleistocene epoch. It is the largest marsupial known to have lived, with the largest specimens being 3m (9.8ft) long and weighing around 2790kg (6150lbs), making it comparable in size to a Hippopotamus. It appeared to exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, with males believed to be twice the size of females.
The closest living relatives of Diprotodon are the Koala and three species of wombat. Diprotodon superficially resembled a wombat, with large front claws and a backwards facing pouch. It has been speculated that females lived in family groups that may have migrated long distances for food, whilst males fought for the right to mate with them. Diprotodon became extinct 44,000 years ago, although whether this was due to climate change, habitat destruction or hunting by humans is unclear.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
Diprotodon is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Extinct Animals expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 2 stars.
Diprotodon is a Wetlands animal. Like all extinct wetland animals, it requires a Misty Spring in its exhibit to be completely comfortable.

The Diprotodon became extinct some 40,000 to 50,000 years ago due to a combination of causes that probably included climate change and hunting by early man. Like the kangaroo, the Diprotodon had a pouch in which it carried its young, but unlike the kangaroo, it used all four legs for walking. Its head was similar in shape to that of today's wombat, and its huge body ended in a tiny, quite adorable tail. This stocky marsupial may have been community minded, living with others of its kind in herds. Modern relatives of the Diprotodon include the wombat and the koala. |

Trivia[]
- In Zoo Tycoon 2, the Diprotodon somewhat looks more like a bear, mainly due to the shape of its head, where in most life restorations, its head mostly resembles a normal wombat. Its body is also shorter than most other life restorations of this animal.
- Normal Diprotodon have a 6% chance of giving birth to a super baby. However, the percentages for birth possibilities only adds up to 86%. Both of these traits are shared with the Dodo.
