The Eastern chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) is a medium-sized African ape. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).

Description[]

The Eastern chimpanzee is a sub-species of the Chimpanzee. The chimpanzee is a great ape and as such, it is one of the closest living relatives to humans. They are stocky primates, with coarse black hair covering their bodies. As with all apes except for humans, their arms are longer than their legs and they are adapted for life in the trees as well as on the ground, typically walking on their knuckles. Chimpanzees live in a variety of habitats, although they usually reside in rainforests. They are omnivorous and will take a wide variety of food, from leaves and bark to insects and smaller primates, but their main diet consists of fruits.

Chimpanzees are highly social animals, living in large groups typically lead by a dominant male. They will often groom each other to reinforce social bonds and communicate with each other using a wide variety of facial expressions and vocalizations. Chimpanzees are also known to be highly intelligent and have been shown creating and using tools, such as sticks to fish for termites and stones to crack open nuts.

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]

The Eastern chimpanzee is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox) and is available in the base game, although it cannot be adopted in the Xbox 360 version. It is unlocked once the player reaches a zoo fame of 32.

The Eastern chimpanzee is a Tropical Rainforest animal, but will tolerate Temperate Forest and Grasslands. It is compatible with other chimpanzees.

Fun Facts[]

  1. Chimpanzees have opposite thumbs and big years, which means that they can grasp things steadily.
  2. It is unfortunately common for chimpanzees to be chased for their meat. The meat, called bushmeat, is forbidden in many countries but occurs despite this.
  3. Leopard is one of the few animals that attacks chimpanzees.
  4. Evolutionarily, man and chimpanzee separated only 4-6 million years ago. Some claim that this is a proof that, like man, they may belong to the genus Homo.
  5. The name of the chimpanzee genus Pan, though, comes from the Greek forest, but it can live in several different environments, such as grasslands, sparse forests and rainforests.
