The Eastern South American Cougar (Puma concolor concolor, formerly Puma concolor capricornensis) is a mid-sized South American felid. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).

Description[]

The Eastern South American Cougar or Puma (formerly Puma concolor anthonyi) is a population of cougar native to the eastern parts of South America, including Brazil, and parts of Paraguay and Uruguay. The Eastern South American Cougar lives in a variety of habitats including Savannahs, Dry Forests, and Tropical Rainforests and hunts a large variety of prey, including ungulates such as deer, tapirs, and peccaries to various primates, sloths, reptiles, frogs and birds. In 2013 an Eastern South American Cougar was photographed in Serra dos Órgãos National Park sporting a white colouration, this cougar was confirmed to have Leucism and was the first ever confirmed recording of the mutation in cougars. The biggest threats to Eastern South American cougars are habitat loss, fragmentation and human activity.

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]

The Eastern South American cougar is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox) and was introduced in the Ultimate Animal Collection expansion pack under the trinomen Puma concolor capricornensis. It is available at a fame level of 31 and is the last cougar subspecies to be unlocked. The Eastern South American Cougar is a Tropical Rainforest animal and is a reddish-brown in colour with blue eyes. Kittens are a pale, tan colour with smaller, black spots and sparse tail striping; their tail fading into black at the end. Like the other cougars, the Eastern South American Cougar eats only meat and has a melanistic variant that can be born when bred. The melanistic variant being a dark grey with blue eyes and black markings.

  • Like the Costa Rican Cougar, the Eastern South American Cougar's kittens have green eyes instead of blue like the adults.
  • The Eastern South American Cougar's scientific name is incorrect, as Puma concolor capricornensis was lumped into Puma concolor anthonyi by 2007, which in turn was lumped into Puma concolor concolor in 2017, the year that Ultimate Animal Collection came out.
