The Llama (Lama glama) is a South American ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The llama is a member of the camel family native to the Andean mountain regions of South America. It is a domestic animal, believed to be descended from the wild Guanaco, and is widely used as a meat and pack animal in its native regions. A full grown llama can reach heights of 1.8m (5ft 11in) at the head and weigh around 200kg (440lb). As domesticated animals, their woolly fur colour is highly variable, although they are often white, brown or piebald.
Like their wild relatives, llamas are social animals that live in herds. Females will give birth to a single baby, or "cria", and will kick and spit if threatened. When used as a pack animal, a llama can carry over a quarter of its body weight.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The llama is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon. It is a downloadable animal.
The llama is a Highlands animal and prefers an elevated habitat. It prefers a large amount of gray stone and a small amount of dirt, snow and fresh water. All it requires for shelter is a stable. They will jump low fences, so their exhibit is advised to have a high fence. They are compatible with the Ibex and prefer to have 4-20 animals in the exhibit with themselves. They are also easy to breed.
Zoo Tycoon XBox[]
The Llama, known in-game as the Domestic Llama, is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (XBox) and is included in the Ultimate Animal Collection. It has a Fame level of 1, and as such is one of the first animals available for adoption.
The llama's preferred habitat is the Andean Plateau. It is compatible with the Guanaco and the two breeds of Alpaca.

Trivia[]
- In Zoo Tycoon, the bonus download file for fixing an issue with the Komodo Dragon has some files referring to the llama.
- In a beta build of Zoo Tycoon 2, there exists a model, textures, sounds, and animations for a llama as part of a petting zoo mechanic. Interestingly, this llama is textured more closely to a Guanaco than the more classical white appearance. Models for a chicken and a goat are also present with the llama.
