Fischer's Lovebird (Agapornis fischeri) is a small African parrot. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game.
Description[]
Fischer's lovebird, named after the German explorer Gustav Fischer, is one of nine parrot species of the genus Agapornis, better known as lovebirds. It is one of the smaller species of its family, reaching a body length of around 14cm (5.5in). Its body is a dark green, whilst its front is a golden yellow and gets darker the further up the head it goes, culminating in a red beak. Males and females are virtually identical in size and color.
Like all lovebirds, Fischer's lovebird is native to Africa, specifically in wooded savannah regions of Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. It lives in small flocks and feeds on seeds, fruit and other food items. As their name suggests, lovebirds mate for life and will stay in contact with each other as much as possible, with separation leading to a decline in health. Female lovebirds nest in tree-holes, where they typically lay four or five eggs. Like many parrots, Fischer's lovebird is a popular exotic pet, although it is not an easy species to care for.
Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game[]
Fischer's lovebird is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game, where it is one of the twelve "Co-Species". Like all co-species, it can be adopted during the game's fall months and may be placed in the habitat of a compatible "main" species or on its own.
Fischer's lovebird is a Savannah animal and is listed as a member of the Bird group. Like all co-species, it has a rating of 0 and cannot be bred or given to other zoos.
Trivia[]
- In the initial build for Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game, the Grey Crowned Crane was intended to be an adoptable animal. Like Fischer's lovebird, it would have been classed as a co-species savannah bird. However, the crane was removed from the game due to a decline in population classing the species as Endangered and was directly replaced by the lovebird.
- Prior to its inclusion, Fischer's lovebird appeared in official boxart for the game.
