The Goblin Shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) is a large cartilaginous fish. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.

Description[]

The goblin shark is the only surviving member of Mitsukurinidae, an ancient genus of sharks that is first believed to have evolved around 125 million years ago. Reaching an average of 4m (13ft) long when fully growth, it has a very distinctive profile, including pink skin, a long flattened snout and jaws filled with nail-like teeth.

The goblin shark is found in benthic waters over 100m deep and may dive to depths of 1300m (4270ft). As a result, very little is known about their behavior in the wild, with most observations coming from individuals caught by fishermen. Despite this, it is believed to be rather sluggish and is probably an ambush predator, using the electroreceptors in its snout to detect deep-sea fish. Its jaws are highly protrusionable and are believed to reach a speed of 3.14 meters per second in order to catch fast moving prey.

Zoo Tycoon 2[]

The goblin shark is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Marine Mania expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 4 stars.

The goblin shark is a Benthic animal and the first of the three animals native to this biome available for adoption. As a benthic animal, it does not require foliage or rocks in its tank exhibit. It cannot be kept comfortably in any other biome.

zootycoon.com Description
Rarely seen, the goblin shark dwells in the deepest of ocean waters, where it is believed to feed on squid, shrimp, octopus, and other soft-bodied bottom-dwelling creatures. Goblin sharks grow to be very large. Their long, knife-shaped nose is embedded with tiny sensory cells, and they have a very large mouth with needlelike teeth. Little is known of the goblin shark and its habits. Humans almost never come in contact with this prehistoric-looking shark because it lives at such great depths. Sightings of goblin sharks have occurred off the coasts of Japan, Australia, and southern Africa.
