Description[]
The Himalayan brown bear is a subspecies of brown bear. Like all brown bears, it has a comparatively large head, a muscular hump on its shoulder and long, blunt claws which are adapted for digging. Males can reach lengths of up to 2.2m (7.3ft) in length, with females being smaller. This makes the Himalayan brown bear the largest animal in its region. It can be distinguished from other brown bear subspecies by its sandy to reddish-brown coat, which gives it the alternative name of Red bear.
As its name suggests, the Himalayan brown bear is native to central Asia, in the Himalayan mountains. Like most bears, it is omnivorous, primarily eating plants, fruit, insects and small mammals. It will hibernate in dens during the winter, emerging in April or May. Unlike other subspecies of brown bear, the Himalayan brown bear is extremely rare, with only around 200 individuals left in the wild. Its scarcity, combined with its habit of walking through snow on its back legs, is believed to have contributed to the origin of the Yeti.

The Himalayan Brown Bear is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. It is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame level of 5.
