Insects are a recurring food item in the Zoo Tycoon franchise, used to feed insectivore animals.

Zoo Tycoon[]

In Zoo Tycoon, the insectivore chow food item was introduced in the Dinosaur Digs expansion pack. Scientists will place it to feed insectivore dinosaurs, such as Caudipteryx and Gallimimus.

Zoo Tycoon 2[]

Insects are important in the diet of many animals, from the meerkat to various species of bear. A few large animals, such as the aardvark, subsist almost exclusively on insects.

In Zoo Tycoon 2, insects are a type of food item eaten by all insectivores in the game. In the base game it only exists in food containers, but African Adventure introduces a terrain version.
