The Javan Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) is a large Asian ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in all three mainline Zoo Tycoon games.
Description[]
The Javan rhinoceros is one of five species of rhinoceros. Although quite large, at around 3.2m (10ft) in length and reaching a height of 1.7m (5.6ft), it is one of the smaller species of the family. It is closely related to the Indian Rhinoceros and possesses armour-like skin and a single horn on its nose. The horn is the smallest of all rhino species, only reaching a length of 25cm (9.8in) in males and being smaller in females or sometimes completely absent. Javan rhinos possess large lower incisors, which they use for fighting.
The Javan rhinoceros lives primarily in lowland rainforests and floodplains, feeding on a diverse variety of plants. As with most rhinoceros species, they are largely solitary, although small groups may gather at mudholes. The Javan rhinoceros was once widespread across Southeast Asia, with populations also found in India and China. However, hunting for their horns and habitat destruction severely reduced their range. Today, only one small population of Javan rhinoceros exists in the Ujung Kulon National Park on the island of Java, Indonesia. Less than 70 individuals are believed to exist, making it one of the most endangered animals on the planet.

The Javan rhinoceros is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon. It is a downloadable animal that was included as part of the Endangered Species Theme Pack and is classed as a Zoo Tycoon animal.
The Javan rhinoceros is a Tropical Rainforest animal. It requires a lot of trees in its exhibit, and can be mixed with the Orangutan and Malaysian Tapir.
The Javan rhinoceros can meet its habitat suitability in multiple ways, one is simply adding one extra Giant Ficus Tree after reaching the limit, or the player can add one Waterfall Rock Formation or two Jungle Rock Formations to the exhibit.

The Javan rhinoceros is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was included as part of the Endangered Species expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 3 and a half stars. One of the pack's scenarios focuses on caring for the Javan rhinoceros.
The Javan rhinoceros once again lives in the tropical rainforest biome and eats a variety of foods such as branches, grass, hay and fruits like bananas, berries and apples. The Javan rhinoceros can use a variety of enrichment items, including the salt lick, pursuit ball, plastic barrel, car tire, scratching post and even the Dinosaur Prey Dummy which was included in the Dino Danger Pack. As for shelters, the Javan rhinoceros can only use two, which are the Shade Structure and the Large Concrete Shelter.
