The Kermode bear (Ursus americanus kermodei) is a large North American mammal. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Kermode bear is a subspecies of American Black Bear native to the Central and North Coast regions of British Columbia, Canada. Like most black bear subspecies, it typically lives in forested areas. Although an adult male can weigh up to 250 kg (551 lb), it is smaller than the Brown Bear and Polar Bear. Unlike brown bears, black bears do not possess a shoulder-hump and typically have shorter claws. Despite their name, not all American black bears have black fur; the Kermode bear is particularly notable in that a tenth of their population are born with a white or cream-colored coat. This color is due to a double recessive gene unique in the subspecies and has given the bear the alternate name of Spirit Bear.
Kermode bears, like all bears, typically lead solitary lives. They are omnivorous, with roughly 85% of their diet being plant-based. Kermode bears will often use their highly developed sense of smell to detect the freshest food and their highly dexterous paws to gain access to hard-to-reach places.Kermode bears are also good climbers and swimmers.
