The Kodiak Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi) is a large North American mammal. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Kodiak bear is a subspecies of brown bear native to the Kodiak Archipelago of southern Alaska. It is the largest of the brown bears, with males weighing up to 600 kg (1320 lbs), nearly twice the weight of most other subspecies. As such, it contends with the Polar Bear as the largest of all bears. Despite their large size, the Kodiak bear does not differ greatly in terms of lifestyle to other members of its species.
Kodiak bears live in a subpolar oceanic climate, with the Archipelago containing dense spruce forests and steep mountains. They are well adapted to this mixed environment and live in comparatively small territories. Like most bears, the Kodiak bear is omnivorous, and will often target certain foods depending on the season - for example, bears will focus on grasses and carrion in early Spring to gain weight that was lost during hibernation. Although generally solitary, bears will often gather in large numbers where food is concentrated, although they will rarely fight each other.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The Kodiak bear is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. It is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame level of 10.
The Kodiak bear is a Tundra animal. It is only compatible with other bear species.
