The Lion's Mane Jelly (Cyanea capillata), more commonly known as the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, is a large jellyfish native to northern oceans. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon.
Description[]
The Lion's Mane jelly is one of the largest species of jellyfish. Its umbrella-shaped "bell", which it uses for propulsion, can reach a diameter of up to 210cm (7ft), whilst its trailing tentacles can reach up to 36.6m (120ft) long. The tentacles resemble the mane of a lion, hence the jellyfish's name, and uses its tentacles to capture prey, before pulling them in to eat. Prey may include fish, zooplankton, small arthropods, or even smaller jellyfish, such as the Moon Jelly.
The lion's mane jelly is adapted for colder waters and can be found around the Arctic, Northern Atlantic and Northern Pacific oceans. It drifts through the open waters on ocean currents, rarely using their bells for swimming. Unlike many jellyfish, the lion's mane jelly is solitary and rarely travels in groups.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The lion's mane jelly is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and was added as part of the Marine Mania expansion pack. In Freeform mode, it can be adopted from the start.
Like all Marine Mania animals, the lion's mane jelly is an Aquatic animal, and it requires a deep tank that is 12 units deep in order to be happy. The lion's mane jelly eats Fish and has low biome needs. Its favorite foliage is the Clam Bed, and it has a low rock requirement. Due to a coding error, it is impossible to get the lion's mane jelly's habitat suitability to 100%, it is possible to get the jelly's habitat suitability up to 97% if the player goes over its normal rock requirement using Small Ocean Floor Rocks.
Tricks[]
Although it is not listed as such in-game, the lion's mane jelly can perform in shows, however, it can only learn two tricks; "Swim up" and "Swim down". The tricks have such a low Potential Benefit that the shows will always bore guests.

- The lion's mane jelly is the longest animal included in the Zoo Tycoon series.
- Lion's mane jellies can perform the least number of tricks in Zoo Tycoon, at only 2. This trait is shared with the Great White Shark.
- Additionally, neither use any show props for their tricks.
