The Markhor (Capra falconeri) is a mid-sized Asian ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon DS.
Description[]
The Markhor is the largest member of the goat family, standing 65 to 115cm (26 to 45in) at the shoulder. It is identifiable by its corkscrew-like horns, which are larger in males, growing up to 160cm (63in) long. Females have smaller horns, which are only 25cm (10in) long. In addition, males have large manes around their neck and chest, which is absent in females.
The Markhor is native to the mountainous regions of Central Asia, including Pakistan, where it is the national animal. Like many goats, it is well adapted for climbing and can be found at heights up to 3600m (11800ft) high. Female Markhor live in herds, while males are largely solitary and will both graze and browse depending on the time of year. Markhor are hunted for their horns, although numbers have risen.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The markhor is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is not adoptable until December 1, making it one of the last animals obtainable.
The markhor lives in the highland biome and likes the Large Rock and some Himalayan trees. Due to their high need for elevation, they are very difficult to maintain and keep happy. The Himalayan Birch Tree gives the Markhor the most habitat suitability, and the Highland Rock Formation is also required to 100% the Markhor's habitat suitability.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The markhor is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was made available as part of the Endangered Species expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is unlocked when a zoo reaches a rating of 2 stars.
The markhor is a herbivorous animal that lives in the alpine biome, though it can also tolerate the boreal forest biome. They will use the salt lick enrichment item and the shade structure, Kopje and stables as shelters.

The markhor is the largest wild goat. It is native to mountainous regions of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and northern India. Markhors are noted for their massive, spirally twisted horns. The markhor has a long, silky coat, which is pale reddish brown in summer and rusty iron gray in winter. Males inhabiting the northern regions of the markhor's range grow long flowing manes and long beards, which reach almost to their knees. Sportsmen once regarded the markhor as an excellent game animal. However, competition from domestic livestock, loss of habitat to human populations, and excessive hunting have seriously depleted markhor populations, and the species is endangered. |
