Meat is a recurring food item in the Zoo Tycoon franchise, used to feed carnivores.

Zoo Tycoon

In Zoo Tycoon, there are two meat food items; a standard one included in the base game, and the Large Meat Chow introduced in Dinosaur Digs.

Zookeepers will place meat to feed standard carnivore animals, such as cats and canids. Scientists will, in turn, place the large carnivore chow to feed extinct carnivorous animals, including dinosaurs, Deinosuchus and the Saber-Toothed Cat.

Zoopedia entry (Meat)
Meat is a primary food staple and a hugely important protein source for a large group of zoo animals, including the big cats and grizzly bears. Meat can be placed directly on the ground, or in food containers or metal troughs.

Zoopedia entry (Dinosaur Meat)
These giant chunks of meat have been formed into fun dinosaur shapes. They make the perfect food for carnivorous dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus rex and Carnotaurus.

In Zoo Tycoon 2, meat is a type of food item eaten by all non-marine carnivores in the game, also including omnivores. The Dino Danger Pack introduced a Dinosaur Meat food item.

Meat also exists in enrichment items, such as the Beef Shank, and the Live Food Lizard.

When any non-marine animal is killed by another animal, it will turn into a carcass container with meat, with the name "Carcass of X". This carcass works much like a purchasable artifical carcass; carnivore animals will eat from it, and zookeepers will refill it.

Some animals, such as the Komodo Dragon and African Wild Dog, are able to regurgitate meat as part of some behaviors (fleeing and feeding young, respectively).

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)

In Zoo Tycoon (Xbox), meat is one of the five feeder types available. Meat can be used to feed lions, tigers, bears, jaguars, and cougars.

Trivia

• In Zoo Tycoon 2, Carnotaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex had a unique animation play when eating dinosaur meat that involved them grasping the meat piece with their foot. This was removed in Extinct Animals for unknown reasons.
• In Zoo Tycoon 2, all animals share the same carcass model. This may lead to unusual circumstances where the carcass is much larger (ex. Meerkat, Fennec Fox) or much smaller (ex. African Elephant, Triceratops) than the animal that was killed.
• In Zoo Tycoon 2, since animal carcasses can be recycled for the same profit as an artificial carcass, using a predator to kill animals works as a roundabout way to get money from excess animals, which is otherwise impossible.
