The Mountain Lion, also known as the Cougar or Puma (Puma concolor) is a mid-sized felid from North and South America. It is an adoptable animal in all three mainline Zoo Tycoon games and Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game, with specific subspecies or populations available in Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
Additionally known by over 40 other English names, including the American Lion, Catamount or Panther, the Mountain Lion has the largest range of any terrestrial animal in the Western Hemisphere, from the Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. It is highly adaptable and can live in a variety of environments, including mountains, deserts, rainforests and swamps. Although it will eat a wide variety of prey items, its primary food source consists of ungulates, particularly deer.
Although quite large, standing 90cm (35in) tall at the shoulder, the mountain lion is classed as a Felinae, or "small cat", and is subsequently more closely related to the domestic cat than to big cats like lions. It has very large paws and strong back legs, allowing it to leap to heights of up to 5.5m. Like most cats, it is mostly solitary, coming together only to mate. Although it has been known to attack and kill humans, these are rare and they will typically avoid human settlements.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The Mountain Lion is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon as a downloadable animal. Unlike later games, the Mountain Lion is not a specific subspecies or population, although it is classed as a North American variety.
The Mountain Lion is a Highland animal, although unlike most Highland animals, it has a preference for brown stone rather than gray stone, although the latter is also required in its exhibit. Like all highland animals, it prefers to have an exhibit with plenty of hills and elevation.
Zoo Tycoon 2 & Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
Specific subspecies or populations of mountain lion are adoptable in Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species and Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection. More information can be found below:
