The Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita) is a small Afro-Eurasian bird. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game.
Description[]
The northern bald ibis is one of around 29 species of ibis, identifiable by their long downward-curving bills. Reaching a body length of up to 80cm (31in) and a wingspan of 135cm (53in), the northern bald ibis has a distinctive unfeathered red head, constrasting the glossy black plumage on the rest of its body. It is a migratory species.
Unlike other ibis, which are waders, the northern bald ibis is typically found in open areas such as grasslands and semi-deserts and nests on cliff edges. It eats a variety of small animals, including lizards and insects. Once common across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, it was wiped out of much of its range by a variety of factors, including human persecution. Today, the last stronghold of the species is in Morocco, but breeding programs have been working to reintroduce the species to its former range.
Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game[]
The northern bald ibis is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game, where it is one of the 23 "main" species included in the base game. It is classed as a Level 3 bird and, as such, cannot be adopted unless all other species have a high enough happiness rating and at least two other bird species are present.
The northern bald ibis is a Savannah species and is extremely social, with at least nine individuals required to reach maximum happiness. It is tolerant of co-species and can be mixed with the Blue Wildebeest, Dama Gazelle, Fischer's Lovebird and Meerkat. It is comparatively easy to breed and, as a Level 3 species, any young born can be contributed to a reintroduction program and released back into the wild, which will earn a zoo Conservation points.
