The Olive Baboon (Papio anubis) is a large African primate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon DS.
Description[]
The olive baboon, also known as the Anubis Baboon after its dog-like snout, is one of the world's largest monkeys. It is one of five species of true baboon and, like all baboons, shows significant sexual dimorphism, with males reaching heights of 70cm (28in) when standing. The fur is made up of yellow-brown and black hairs. Like all baboons, it has a relatively short tail that droops sharply at the base.
Olive baboons live in a wide variety of habitats, but they are most commonly found in wooded savannahs. They live in large troops, sometimes numbering over 100 individuals. Olive baboons have a wide, varied diet which typically involves plants, invertebrates and small mammals.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The olive baboon is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is not available for adoption until March 1. It is one of twelve animals available to adopt in the Seasideville Zoo scenario.
The olive baboon is a savannah animal and is relatively simple to keep, only requiring a small patch of dirt as additional terrain. The olive baboon's favorite foliage is the Baobab Tree and require a large amount of foliage to be happy as well as a small number of rocks. The olive baboon is a social animal, requiring at least 3 individuals to meet their minimum group size. Unlike other primates in Zoo Tycoon, the olive baboon does not use any toys. The olive baboon can use the Concrete and Wood shelters, getting the most habitat suitability from the Large Wood Shelter.
Despite the olive baboon's favorite foliage being the Baobab Tree, the olive baboon is not able to maximize its habitat suitability using only Baobab Trees. Instead, the player must use at least a few Thorn Bush clusters in order to have a habitat suitability of 100%. The amount of Thorn Bush clusters needed being different depending on if the player uses Large Rocks, Medium Savannah Rocks, or Medium or Small Rocks and which type of shelter the player uses.

Trivia[]
- The olive baboon in both games don't exhibit any sexual dimorphism like they do in real life.
- The olive baboon is omnivorous in real life, while the olive baboon has coding in Zoo Tycoon to chase prey, it has no coding for actually hunting any animals.
- The only animal the olive baboon is coded to be compatible with is the Mandrill, despite the two animals living in completely different biomes.
