The pronghorn is often known colloquially in North America as the American antelope, prong buck, pronghorn antelope, cabri, or simply antelope because it closely resembles the true antelopes of the Old World and fills a similar ecological niche due to convergent evolution. They are the last surviving members of the family Antilocapridae, a sister group of ruminants related to giraffes.
Pronghorn are found throughout most of North America's western interior, ranging as far North as Alberta, Canada and as far south as Northern Mexico. A small population has also been introduced to Washington, USA. Pronghorn are highly specialised for open and bare environments like grasslands and cold deserts. One notable adaptation is their incredible speed, reaching up to a maximum of 88.5km/h (55mph). This trait had evolved as an arms-race response to its former major predator, the American "cheetah" (Miracinonyx trumani, a relative of the Mountain Lion and Cheetah). Since this sepcies has went exist, the pronghorn's great speed now exists as an evolutionary anachronism. In the present day, pronghorn still have some predators like gray wolves, brown bears, and even golden eagles.
Pronghorn numbers suffered greatly in the past due to over-hunting, being as low as 13,000 in the 1920's. Fortunately, habitat protection and regulated hunting has helped the species recover from its presumed endangerment, growing as high as 1,000,000 just 10 years later and stabilising around 700,000 in modern times.

The pronghorn is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox). They are unlocked at a Zoo Fame level of 22 and prefer grasslands exhibits. As with all antelope, pronghorn require being housed with at least 3 other members of its species. Pronghorn can also be mixed with all antelope, chimps, elephants, giraffes, and rhinos (as well as alpacas, llamas, and kangaroos with the Ultimate Animal Collection).
