The Ring-Tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) is a small African primate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)

Description[]

The ring-tailed lemur is the most well-known of all the lemurs, a group of primates endemic to the African island of Madagascar. A relatively large lemur, the ring-tailed lemur weighs up to 2.2kg (4.9lbs) and can reach lengths of up to 110cm (43in). Of this length, up to 63cm (25in) is made up of the lemur's distinctive bushy tail, which features black and white bands that gives the species its common name. Although typically used for balance, lemurs also use their tails for communication between group members.

Living primarily in scrub forests, ring-tailed lemurs are largely terrestrial, unlike most other lemur species. They live in large groups of up to 30 individuals, lead by a dominant female. To attract a female, males will rub their tails on scent-glands on their wrists and wafting it at the females or opposing males. Although largely omnivorous, ring-tailed lemurs have a preference for leaves and fruits. Although the most common lemur in captivity, the ring-tailed lemur is endangered in the wild due to hunting and habitat destruction.

Zoo Tycoon 2[]

The ring-tailed lemur is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and is available in the base-game. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 3 stars.

The ring-tailed lemur is a Tropical Rainforest animal, and can tolerate the grassland and temperate forest biomes (as well as savannah and wetlands to a lesser extent). Though it can not build a nest out of a pile of leaves, two can rest in a nest made by other animals.

Occasionally, a ring-tailed lemur may sit upright with its arms spread out. In real life, lemurs will often sunbathe in this position.

zootycoon.com Description
The ring tailed lemur is found only on the island of Madagascar and the nearby islands of Comoros. Their habitat ranges from tropical deciduous forest to semi-desert, and they are comfortable both on the ground and climbing trees. In contrast to other more arboreal lemurs, the ring-tail spends much of its time on the ground. It lives largely on wild figs and other fruits.

Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]

The ring-tailed Lemur is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox) and is available in the base game. It is available for adoption at the start of a zoo, making it the first lemur available for adoption.

The ring-tailed lemur is a mini-exhibit animal and subsequently the first available mini-exhibit animal available in the original Xbox game. It lives in the Tropical Rock mini-exhibit and can be exhibited with other lemurs.

Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game[]

The Ring-tailed Lemur is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game and was added in the New Shores expansion pack. The ring-tailed lemur was going to be part of the original roster for New Shores but was cut when the Zebra Shark was added to the roster after high demand for a shark species to be included in the Main Species roster. However, the Ring-tailed lemur would get a second chance during the Bracket Vote, of which it tied with the African Wild Dog in the first voting round. The ring-tailed lemur however would lose to the Tasmanian Devil in the quarterfinals.

The ring-tailed lemur would then get a third chance to be included in New Shores as a final stretch goal, ultimately becoming a Pledge Manager stretch goal, with a goal of 30,000 CHF, which was reached on September 12, 2024.

The ring-tailed lemur is a Main Species and is represented with its own meeple. It is a Level 2, Dry Forest animal in the Primate class.
