A shade structure is an animal shelter in Zoo Tycoon 2. It is one of the cheapest shelters in the game and also one of the most helpful, being available at 1/2 stars of zoo fame. It looks like made out of straw and wood. When using the shade structure, animals will lie under the shade cast by them.
Many animals will use this shelter, such as elephants, camels, big cats, antelopes, and more. Some user-made variations are also available for download.

- Sometimes large trees can be used as a replacement for the shade structure. This can be done to save some more money, since most of them are much cheaper than a shade structure.
