The Shortfin Mako Shark is a large member of the mackerel shark family, which also includes the Great White Shark. Females can reach a length of 4m (13ft), with males being smaller. It has a cylindrical body with a metallic blue coloration on the top part of its body and a white underside.
The shortfin mako shark is a pelagic species that can be found in tropical and temperate seas worldwide. Like many sharks, it travels large distances to find prey, which typically includes cephalopods and bony fish. It is known to be one of the fastest species of sharks, with its streamlined body reducing drag in the water. As a popular fishing species, the shortfin mako shark is considered Endangered in the wild.
