The South China Tiger is a subspecies/population of the tiger. Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are recognised by their orange coats with dark stripes. Tigers are found across Asia and are apex predators in all regions of their habitat. Their muscular bodies and powerful limbs allow them to hunt large prey like deer, wild boar and cattle, with their stripes acting as camouflage. Tigers are one of the few cats that are comfortable in water, as they are strong swimmers and often chase after prey through rivers.
Formerly native to southern China, the South China tiger is the smallest tiger subspecies in mainland Asia, with only the island-dwelling Sumatran Tiger being smaller. Males can weigh up to 175kg (386lb), with females being smaller, and it tends to possess a lighter, more yellow-ish coat than the Bengal Tiger. Numbers declined due to hunting and habitat destruction and no wild sightings have been reported since the late 1980s. The organization Save China's Tigers is currently looking to release captive tigers into protected reserves to rewild the subspecies.

The South China tiger is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. It is obtainable when a zoo reaches a fame rating of 6.
The South China tiger is a Tropical Rainforest animal. It is compatible with other felids, such as lions, cougars, jaguars and other tigers.
