Description[]
The Southern South American Puma also known as the Andean Puma or Argentine Puma is a population of puma native to Southern parts of South America, including Argentina and Chile. The Southern South American Puma lives in a variety of habitats including grasslands, savannahs, deserts, forests and mountainous habitats, this population can also withstand the lowest temperatures of the puma populations. Southern South American Pumas hunt a large variety of prey, including camelids such as the Guanaco and vicuña, various South American deer, pudu, mara, the Andean Mountain Cat and South American foxes. In San Guillermo National Park, the puma's main prey is the vicuña, which make up 80% of the cat's diet. However the Southern South American Puma will often abandon their kills if not cached quickly as they are prone to being harassed by birds of prey such as the Andean condor, which causes the puma to store 50% more prey than their North American cousins.
