The Southern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) is a large African ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The Southern white rhinoceros is one of two subspecies of White Rhinoceros. The white rhinoceros is the largest of five species of rhinoceros and represents the largest living land mammal after the elephants. Males are larger than females, reaching lengths of 4m (13.1ft) and weighing an average of 2300kg (5070lbs). One of two African species of rhino alongside the smaller Black Rhinoceros, the white rhinoceros can be identified by its wide, square-shaped mouth and hump on the back of its neck. Like the black rhinoceros, it possesses two horns on its head, the larger of which is around 60cm in length, but may be longer in females. Despite their names, both the white and black rhinoceros are a slate-gray in coloration.
The white rhinoceros is native to the savannah grasslands of southern Africa and is notably the only rhinoceros adapted for grazing, using their wide mouths to pluck the shortest grasses. It is more social than other rhinoceros species and may live in small groups, or "crashes", but if threatened will charge at up to 51km/h (30mph). Nearly all living white rhinos are of the southern subspecies, as extensive conservation efforts have bought their numbers up to over 17000 individuals.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The southern white rhinoceros is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. It is the first rhinoceros, and one of the first animals, available for adoption.
