Stokesosaurus (Stokes' lizard) is a small carnivorous dinosaur from North America. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.
Description[]
Stokesosaurus is a theropod, a group of largely carnivorous dinosaurs, that lived during the late Jurassic. Very little is known about it, as only a few bones have been discovered; most notably, a small ilium (hip bone) that suggests Stokesosaurus may have been around 3-4m (10-13ft) in length. Stokesosaurus is believed to be a basal tyrannosauroid, making it distantly related to Tyrannosaurus rex.
Fossils of Stokesosaurus have been found in the Morrison Formation, a semiarid region from which many species of dinosaur have been found, including Apatosaurus, Camptosaurus and Stegosaurus. Due to its small size, Stokesosaurus would likely have fed on smaller animals, avoiding competition from larger theropods such as Allosaurus.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
Stokesosaurus is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Extinct Animals expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 1.5 stars.
Stokesosaurus is a Boreal Forest animal, but can also tolerate Alpine, Grassland, Temperate Forest and Tundra to a degree. Like all extinct boreal forest animals, it requires a Glacier in its exhibit in order to be fully comfortable. If stressed, it may rampage.

The Stokesosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic Period and became extinct about 145 million years ago. It was named after a geologist whose last name was Stokes. The Stokesosaurus is a mysterious creature; very little is known about this dinosaur. In fact, only a few bones, including a hip bone, a few vertebrae, and a partial braincase, have been unearthed so far. Its fossils have been found only in Utah, in the United States. Its sole claim to fame: The Stokesosaurus may be related to the very popular Tyrannosaurus rex. |

Trivia[]
- Stokesosaurus is far larger than its real life counterpart, which was slightly larger than Velociraptor.
- Although not the largest carnivore in-game, Stokesosaurus shares the same predator scale as other large theropods such as Tyrannosaurus, which allows it to kill creatures far larger than it.
Easter Egg[]
Although it is not listed in the Zookeeper Recommendations, Stokesosaurus is able to use the Easel enrichment item. When a Stokesosaurus uses the easel, it will wear a large pair of glasses. This behavior is hinted at in its Zoopedia entry, which claims Stokesosaurus is short-sighted.
The reason why Stokesosaurus wears glasses is revealed in an Animal Escapade on the official website, being that they help them see better and that it makes them look smarter.
