The Thomson's Gazelle (Eudorcas thomsonii, formerly Gazella thomsonii) is a small antelope from Africa. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon DS.
Description[]
The Thomson's gazelle, or "Tommie", was named after the explorer Joseph Thomson and is considered to be one of the most common gazelles in East Africa. It is recognized by its markings, which include black and rufous stripes across its face and a large black stripe on its flanks. Both sexes have horns, although they are larger in males.
The Thomson's gazelle lives on the African Savannah and eats short grass that has already been grazed by other large herbivores such as zebra or wildebeest. It is able to reach speeds of up to 55mph (90km/h), making it one of the fastest land animals in its range. Its main predator is the cheetah, which can run faster, although the Thomson's gazelle is able to run for longer distances and turn more quickly.
Zoo Tycoon[]
The Thomson's gazelle is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game. In Freeform mode, it is one of eight animals of the base game that is initially available without research. It is present in a few scenarios, including Small Zoo and African Savannah Zoo.
The Thomson's gazelle is one of the easiest animals to care for, they are Savannah animals and only require a small pool of fresh water as additional terrain. They do not require much space and can be contained in all high fencing, although they will jump over low fences. Thomson's gazelles are compatible with many other savannah animals, although it is easiest to mix them with the Plains Zebra, as they share similar habitat requirements. Although easy to breed, they are not very popular with guests.
The Thomson's gazelle's favorite foliage is Tall Grass and only requires a small amount of foliage and rocks. The Thomson's gazelle is an animal that cannot have a habitat suitability of 100%. If the player creates a 10x10 exhibit the highest suitability they'll get is 95%, if the player goes over the foliage limit by three tiles, they can reach a maximum suitability of 98%.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The Thomson's gazelle is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2. As in the previous game, it is available in the base game and is initially available in Challenge Mode. It is once again a savannah animal, and requires little space. In Zoo Tycoon 2, the Thomson's gazelle shows sexual dimorphism, as the females lack horns entirely.
As with Zoo Tycoon, the Thomson's gazelle is compatible with many other savannah animals. If there are multiple males in an enclosure, they will occasionally fight. Thomson's gazelles are once again capable of jumping over low fences.
The Thomson's gazelle only eats hay and is a low entertaining animal, only having the Salt Lick as enrichment. For shelters the Thomson's gazelle can use the Shade Structure, Stables, and Wooden Shelters.

| The Thomson's gazelle migrates between the African forests and the steppe. After the rains, it feeds on the fresh green grasses of the Serengeti Plain. Though usually found in herds of 20, these gazelle mass in the thousands for up to a few days for breeding. Its S-shaped horns offer some protection from predators, but its real defense is to flee. To confuse their enemies and to warn the herd, Thomson's gazelles bounce high into the air with their legs stretched down stiffly when alarmed. This behavior is called "stotting" or "pronking." |

- The Thomson's gazelle is the cheapest animal for purchase in Zoo Tycoon.
- Despite being so in real life, the Thomson's gazelle does not show any sexual dimorphism in Zoo Tycoon.
- In Zoo Tycoon 2, the Thomson's gazelle does exhibit sexual dimorphism, however females lack horns entirely which is also inaccurate as females in real life have smaller horns than males.
- The Thomson's gazelle in Zoo Tycoon 2 is the Eastern subspecies in particular. The only other subspecies being the Serengeti Thomson’s Gazelle (Eudorcas thomsonii nasalis).
