The Transvaal Lion (Panthera leo melanochaita, formerly Panthera leo krugeri) is a large, South African feline. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).

The Transvaal Lion, also known as the South African, Southeast African or Cape Lion, is a population of Southern Lion that is found in South Africa, particularly Kruger National Park and the Kalahari Region specifically. The Transvaal name coming from the former Transvaal province of South Africa. A 2006 genetic study found that the extinct Cape lion was likely just the southernmost population of the Transvaal lion. Mature Transvaal lions tend to have dark or black manes, their manes darkening over time as they age.
The Leucistic, white lion is from the Transvaal lion population specifically, being a recessive colour mutation unique to the population. Leucistic Transvaal lions are mostly found in captivity, but are occasionally found in the wild as well.
In 2017, the Cat Classification Task Force of the Cat Specialist Group revised lion taxonomy, lumping the Transvaal lion in with several other subspecies, including the Katanga and Masai lions into the single subspecies of Panthera leo melanochaita, or Southern Lion.
