The Tufted Capuchin (Sapajus apella) is a small South American primate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
Also known as the Brown Capuchin and Black-Capped Capuchin, the tufted capuchin is a small species of New World monkey. Weighing up to 4.8kg (10.6lbs), with males weighing more than females, it is one of the more powerfully built members of the capuchin family. Its name comes from the thick, dark bundle of fur on its forehead, contrasting with its otherwise brown-gray body. Its tail, about the same length as the rest of its body, is prehensile and can be used as an extra limb.
Native primarily to the forests of the Amazon basin, the tufted capuchin is a social animal, living in groups of around twenty individuals lead by a dominant male. Although primarily arboreal, it will often forage on the ground, searching mainly for fruits and invertebrates. It is one of the most intelligent primates, being able to create and use tools. One troop was discovered to have learnt how to crack open nuts by letting them dry in the sun, before using a large stone to break them open.

Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game[]

The tufted capuchin is a Level 1 rainforest primate. As a level 1 animal, it can be adopted at any time without restrictions. It is tolerant of co-species and can be exhibited with the Axis Deer, Giant Anteater, Great Hornbill or Jabiru. If the tufted capuchin is exhibited in a zoo along with the Red and Green Macaw, giant anteater and jabiru, the zoo will earn conservation points towards the Pantanal Matogrossense reserve.
