The Warrah (Dusicyon australis) is a large extinct South American canid. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.

Description[]

The Warrah is a canid native to the Falkland Islands, located to the east of the Patagonian coasts of South America. The only native land mammal on the islands, the warrah, also known as the Falkland Island Fox, was described as being large and resembling a wolf. It has a tawny-colored coat and a white tip to its tail. Its closest living relative is believed to be the maned wolf.

Little is known about the warrah and how it became established on the Falkland Islands is unclear. It is possible that it primarily preyed upon ground-nesting birds, seal pups and insects. Some reports suggest it may have lived in burrows. The warrah was hunted by settlers for its fur and the belief that it was a threat to their sheep. It became extinct in 1876 and is the first known canid to have died out during historical times.

Zoo Tycoon 2[]

The warrah is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Extinct Animals pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 2.5 stars.

The warrah is a Grassland animal, but will also tolerate Savannah and Scrub. This is likely in reference to the fact that there are no forests of the Falkland Islands. Like all extinct grassland animals, it requires a misty spring in its exhibit in order to be fully comfortable.

zootycoon.com Description
With its reddish-brown coat and white-tipped tail, the warrah resembled other species of fox or a small wolf. Ancient cavemen may have warmed up to this best friend: The warrah’s comparative tameness has led some to suggest that it may have been brought to the Falkland Islands by prehistoric man and domesticated, retaining some of its domestic behavior after the original human inhabitants left. Instead of howling like the foxes it resembled, the warrah is said to have barked like a dog. The warrah was last seen in 1876.
