Description[]
Named after the distinctive white tail, the white-tailed mongoose is the largest species of mongoose, reaching a body length of up to 71cm (28in) and weighing up to 3.38kg (7.5lb). It is the only member of its genus and can be recognized by its tail and its legs, which are relatively long for a mongoose.
The white-tailed mongoose is native to the semi-deserts and savannah of Africa, as well as the southern regions of the Arabian Peninsula. It is nocturnal, venturing out at night to feed on insects and other small animals, before spending the day resting in a burrow or termite mound. The white-tailed mongoose is solitary, with groups being either a breeding pair or a female with offspring.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The white-tailed mongoose is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game, although it is not present in the Xbox 360 version. It is adoptable when a zoo reaches a fame level of 10.
The white-tailed mongoose is a mini-exhibit animal and lives in the Savannah Rock exhibit. It is compatible with the Banded Mongoose.
