The Wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a small Holarctic mammal. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.
Description[]
The wolverine is one of the largest members of the mustelid family, a group of carnivorans that also contains badgers and otters. Around the same size as a medium dog, the wolverine can weigh up to 32kg (71lbs), with males being larger than females. Its thick fur is highly water-resistant, allowing it to keep warm during long winters without frost forming and its distinctive white markings are believed to serve as an advertisement to warn other animals to stay away.
Wolverines are native to boreal and tundra areas across the northern regions of North America, Europe and Asia. It primarily scavenges from other predators, often eating voraciously in a manner believed to be an adaptation for food scarcity - this has lead to the wolverine's alternative name of Glutton. Wolverines will also hunt their own prey and have been known to hunt deer much larger than themselves, usually by chasing them into thick snow that the deer's long thin legs cannot cross easily whilst the wolverine's large furry paws can. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength, and has been recorded attacking larger predators like wolves and even bears.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The wolverine is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and was added as part of the Endangered Species expansion pack. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a rating of 3 stars.

Wolverines live in the boreal forest biome, and it can tolerate the alpine biome.

Wolverines are omnivores that will feed on meat and berries.
Enrichment[]
Wolverines play with the rubber ball and the beef shank.
Shelter[]
Wolverines use the rock shelter.
Behavior[]
Wolverines are territorial and aggressive animals. Females give birth to two babies at a time.

In spite of its seemingly clumsy movements, it can move swiftly. Wolverines will eat bird eggs, berries, and any animal they can kill. Lacking live prey, they will eat carrion. They are adept at robbing the traps that hunters set for other animals. Although once abundant, the wolverine is now rare due to overhunting, both for its fur and because it is viewed as a pest by some people. |
