The Additional Species Pack, also called the Additional Main Species Pack or Additional Animal Pack, is an upcoming miniature expansion pack to Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game and will come bundled with Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game - New Shores.

The Additional Species Pack is a miniature expansion pack that will feature eight new "Main Species" animals voted by the Zoo Tycoon community. As with the base game and expansion, each species will have its own set of cards and meeples. The pack will also only be available in deluxe and will not have a separate standard version.

History[]
The idea of an additional animal pack was first mentioned briefly during the livestream reveal for New Shores and would eventually be confirmed on February 27, 2024 where it was confirmed that the pack would feature a vote on Discord for the community's favourite animals for the pack. The first major update occurred on April 5, 2024, where backers would be allowed to suggest up to three animals for the pack. Over 80 animal species were suggested during this phase, before being narrowed down to 54.
On April 15, 2024, the main voting round for the animal pack commenced, with each user being allowed to select ten animals. The poll ran for a week and the results were announced on April 23, 2024, with a total of 717 votes. The top eight were included in the pack, with a second vote being held to determine the specific wolf and ray (sub)species. It was also announced that other animals may be included as part of stretch goals.
The results of the wolf and ray vote were given on May 8, 2024 with the Gray Wolf and Spotted Eagle Ray being the winners.

- The Additional Species Pack was originally going to possibly have anywhere from 10 to 15 species included in it. This number was then lowered to eight on the final voting round due to production costs.
- The Chinese Giant Salamander, Grey Crowned Crane, Ring-Tailed Lemur, Straw-Coloured Fruit Bat and Tasmanian Devil would all be added to the New Shores expansion pack later in production due to fan demand.
